If you’ve been keeping up with my blog lately, you’ll know that I recently started a new job (in a new industry, no less!). Along with the usual rigmarole of getting access to various systems, sitting through HR training courses, and learning a zillion people’s name, there at least comes the fun task of decorating your work space.
In my last two work situations, I had an actual office to myself, complete with a door I could shut to keep out the outside world. With all that space, I never really took the time to decorate it.
But now that I am back in a cube (a very small one at that), I am motivated to do something to make my little space stand out as my own.
So, where else does a girl in search of cute decor go? None other than Pinterest.
The problem is, Pinterest is absolutely chock full of #deskgoals when it comes to home offices, where you have the luxury of painting the walls, buying a fancy Z Gallerie desk, and arranging your space with interior design in mind.
Not so much with an office cube. You are limited to those drab cream colored desks with the grey soft walls used for pinning important docs and calendars. Not exactly great to work with!
So, I was honestly a little shocked that Pinterest didn’t have much in the way of ideas for decorating an office cubicle in the same way that it has a plethora of highly stylized home office decor ideas.
My first search yielded some not so cute ideas. I like the occasional chevron print (though I think it is very 2013 and now comes across as juvenile), but good grief, this cube got attacked by the chevron monster!
Then I found this cube decked out in gold with white polka dots. OK, at least we’ve moved onto a pattern that is much more classic than chevron, and gold is always a chic color. But the all over wallpaper just looks unprofessional in my honest opinion. (Although I must admit that i love the calendar.)
Seriously, what is with all of the full blown cube wall papering? I mean, I love me some horizontal black and white stripes, but this just seems like overkill to me.
Scrolling some more, I finally found a few pins that were a bit more toned down. The second photo below is a bit cluttered for my tastes, but I really like the idea of using a screensaver as decor.
Another thing I kept coming across was people using these monogram mugs as pencil holders, which you can actually see in the photo above as well. I think that’s an adorable idea!
In the end, Pinterest really didn’t offer a ton of ideas on decorating office cubicles, so it looks like I will just have to rely on the Pinspiration of all the home office pins that I love to drool over.

I have never worked in a cube. It’s either been a desk in a shared office or a home based office. I always put up a few favourite view photos. Looking forward to seeing your cube once you’ve personalised it.

Photos definitely make a desk/office/cube better, don’t they? I love being able to glance away from my computer and get a glimpse of a holiday.

I don’t have a cube, just a desk in a block of 6, which is nice cause you can see/speak to everyone else on the block easily. However, it means as far as decoration goes, all I have is a coaster with a penguin on!

It is really nice when you can visibly see your neighbors, isn’t it? I was in an office situation once where the cubes were quite tall, so that you’d literally have to be over seven feet tall to see over them. It was nice in a way, but it meant that you had to walk around and essentially peek in on people to see if they were there. Your penguin coaster sounds cute!!

My office is decorated with huge piles of paperwork and seven-year old kid art. You may have inspired me to take a bit of time to spruce it up.

I wouldn’t mind a cube of my own. But that requires looking for work where I can have said cube.

That it does! Having been in an office to myself for a couple of years now, I have got to say it is nice being closer to other people now. Although that does mean dealing with more noise from neighbors. 🙂

I would not be allowed to do the wallpaper deal haha- I think they are taking it a little far. However, I do have pictures and prints, and I have cute office supplies (that I bought for myself), and they make all the difference in the world! It also makes it far easier to change something when the mood strikes me 🙂

They are definitely taking it too far, right?! I mean I love some of those patterns but dang, that just looks like one of those pranks when someone comes back from vacation and their office-mates have covered their cube in post-it notes.
Oh, and I LOVE cute office supplies! I definitely splurged on the ones I will be using in the new office.

Oops. I have A LOT of chevron print in my classroom 😂😂. I have a turquoise, lime and chalkboard theme with lots of chevron. Mind you, I decorated my classroom in 2013, so I was right on trend!

Haha oh I hear you! Chevron had quite the moment back then!! My guest shower curtain is still chevron. Isn’t it funny how patterns go in and out of fashion? I am in love with quatrefoil right now, but I always kind of fear that as soon as I decorate my home with a trend, the trend will pass and I’ll fall in love with something new lol!

That’s always my fear, too! My classroom can be kinda behind the times and that’s OK. I’m not rich, so I’m not about to do a complete overhaul just yet.

I cannot wait to see what you do with your cubicule! 🙂 I wish we had cubicules in my office… I find it hard to focus in a shared, open space office. I’m trying to make my desk a bit more personal though, with photos and a plant (that I just brought in today!).

I’ve never had an office cubical so I couldn’t really give an opinion, but I will say with conviction that the first few looked far too garish for my tastes. I’d definitely keep it simple if it were me. I’m a “less is more” kinda fella.

Garish is the absolute perfect word for them, isn’t it? I love a good pattern in moderation, but those were pure overkill.
