For the first time in forever

…I’m posting!

You guys, I really am so sorry for the absence these past few weeks. Life has been a little … hectic. Aside from getting a really nasty flu and being out of commission for a couple of weeks, work has been ~*dramatic*~.

But that’s another post for another time!

I wanted to write today to let you guys know of some changes possibly/probably coming to GirlyGeekGirl.

I’ve mentioned a few times recently that I’m considering switching to self-hosting. The jury is still out on this one, but there are some other changes I wanted y’all’s opinion on.

Namely, I’m considering re-branding/re-naming/re-styling the blog. Now that I’m in my 30s, I’m wondering if I’m too old to refer to myself as ‘girl,’ which if so, puts a cramp in the whole ‘girly geek girl’ nomenclature.

I’ve mulled over various re-branding ideas, and what kept popping into my head is that GirlyGeekGirl was always meant to be a mosaic. A hodgepodge of girly things like fashion and baking, and geeky things like fantasy novel and game reviews.

So, the name mosaicca occurred to me, and I really liked it.

It was a made-up word that encompasses my eclectic interests, but one that clearly demonstrated the kaleidoscope of topics my blog is about.

So, I want y’all’s completely honest opinions. Do you like the idea of GirlyGeekGirl being re-branded and re-named to something a bit more sleek and sophisticated? The mock-up above is just that, so the home page wouldn’t necessarily look like this. But it certainly wouldn’t be as cartoonish as GGG is.

Regardless of if/when I do any blog re-branding, I’ve also realized that I simply can’t keep up the schedule of posting 4-5 days a week. At least not with the prescribed daily topics I’ve been doing.

I hope you all can forgive my absence in both posting and reading/commenting on your blogs!

  1. Hey girl! I’ve missed ya! Sorry you were sick-that’s no bueno! I’m like you-I feel like I need to update my blog or something. I’ve lost some of my inspiration and need something “new”. I liked your blog name, but the name doesn’t fully represent what you’re about. At least, it doesn’t represent the sleek and glamorous side of you. I like the idea behind your new name, but I wonder about how it’s pronounced and if that will hinder its meaning in any way?

    • Hey girl!! I was just thinking about you! Oh goodness that sounded creepy af. I mean I can’t wait to catch up on your blog!

      I really appreciate the feedback. This is the exact sort of feedback I want. In my head I pronounce it mosaic-uh. It feels so hard to come up with a name that ticks all the proverbial boxes: representative of what the blog is about, easy to spell, easy to remember, easy to pronounce, and no already taken. Lol.

      What kind of changes/rebranding are you considering for McCupcakes?

  2. I hope that you have had enough time to rest- don’t rush back, take care of you!! I think that either way I will still be a loyal reader. It’s your voice that I love, that will be there regardless! If GGG doesn’t feel like a fit anymore, it’s a sign! Either way, I’m here 🙂

  3. I think it’s natural to rebrand from time to time. In the world of introspective essay writing, we tend to evolve quickly. I’ve rebranded once in 3 years (and actually started a whole new blog leaving the old one to be spammed by international “sales=people”.
