If you’re reading this post in real time, or look at the date stamp, you’ll see I’m actually publishing it on Saturday, not Wednesday. That’s because work has quite literally gotten so all-consuming that I’ve barely been left with enough time to sleep, let alone blog.
Also, hopefully you sang the title in your head a la Rihanna. 🙂
I’m far too paranoid about any colleagues at work stumbling across my humble little blog to delve into exactly why work has been exceedingly taxing lately, even though I use a semi-pseudonym.
Anyway, as I’ve mentioned before on here, I do math-y things for a large corporation. I’ve got my Masters and would be what I suppose one would call a mid-level employee. As it stands with my background, there’s not a ton of room for mobility as far as becoming either a more senior math-y person in my current industry, or in switching to another industry.
A couple of weeks ago, I did a lot of thinking and decided to seriously consider going back for my PhD in biostatistics. Applying to the program I want (Vanderbilt — the only program remotely near me here in middle Tennessee) is free, and this is something that could really open a lot more career doors for me.
So, I’m registered for the GRE in December and am diligently putting together application materials!
Any shift back to graduate school would be a long way off — a year from now at the very earliest — assuming I could even be competitive enough to be accepted. And I really do love what I do now; it’s just that I want to be even more intellectually stimulated, and I want to grow as a statistician.
As I finish up this blog post, I’m frantically packing and getting ready for our vacation. We’re leaving for Disney World bright and early tomorrow morning!!!!!!
I’ll apologize in advance for some continued lagging in posting, as I not only take time off for vacation but continue settling into a new home and a very lengthy commute (1+ hour each way!).
I can’t wait to tell you all about our latest Disney adventure!!!!
Until next time, xoxo
