Gone are the days of wild, dance-y, glammed up, breakfast-at-2-AM New Year’s Eves. And by “gone,” I mean “never were my thing.” Sure, I’ve had my fair share of nights out on the town partying. But the the idea of wearing a slinky dress in the dead of winter and being jam packed with drunk people on some downtown rooftop bar and staying up well past midnight has just never appealed to me.
Which is why I love celebratory yet cozy NYE’s like Dear Boyfriend and I had this year.
For a hot minute we had considered going into the city and watching the ball drop at midnight. But then we were all like “Nahhhh.” Sounded great in theory, but in reality we can’t handle crowds that big, or people that drunk, or traffic that bad, or weather that cold, or staying out that late.
So, we decided on a dinner out, a small party at his dad’s house, and capping the night off back at his mom’s (where we were staying on this trip) to drink some bubbly and watch the Time’s Square festivities from the comfort of home.
Dinner was a yummy trip to our favorite local Mexican restaurant. I had a cauliflower quesadilla, which sounds odd, but was actually spectacular!
After having our fill of salsa and margs, we headed to his dad’s house, where we I cooed over the family’s newest member, our new step-nephew.

We all watched the college football bowl games that were on, which brought out many of a collegiate rivalry!
Dear Boyfriend and I picked up some Prosecco (by Cali-based Cupcake — a nice budget friendly label) and snazzy new year’s crowns.

Then we went back to his mom’s house to pop the cork on our bubbly, enjoy some Christmas chocolates, and watch the ball drop on TV.
His mom doesn’t believe in drinking, and we have no clue where our personalized Champagne flutes are, so we made do with old mason jars. (How hipster. Ugh. 😉 )
It was also below freezing that night, so we kept our fashions pretty comfy. Not that Dear Boyfriend is into fashion at all — he’s virtually always in jeans and a t-shirt. Given that it was below freezing, I was tempted to follow suit with jeans and a button down flannel. But, wanting to not look like a complete hobo, I decided on grey leather wedge ankle booties, crisp winter white jeans, a black and white striped boat neck tee, and a caramel blazer.
We snuggled up on the couch, turned on the fire, and were quickly joined by one of the dogs, Ares, who decided to snuggle up with us.

Food, family, football, babies, dogs, fires, bubbly, chocolate, and a kiss at midnight? I couldn’t have asked for a better New Year’s Eve. 🙂
Baby fever, party of two! (add me in there, will ya?) lol. Your New Years seemed awesome. I’ve never been one for going out, either. 🙂

Haha oh my goodness gracious my baby fever is at an all time high. Dear Boyfriend has to keep reminding me that it is illegal to steal a cute baby. Join in the baby fever!!! Glad I’m not the only one. And huzzah for being ones not to go out on NYE!! 🙂

I just went to friends on NYE too. Ate cheese, drank prosecco and watched the celebrations on tv. X

Cheese+prosecco=AMAZING!! Sounds fantastic!! 🙂
Plus watching the celebrations on TV is always better than braving the nasty crowds in person!

Hey, Charlotte ! I want to ask you something. Why you always cut out your photos from top? I mean you never show your face or eyes ! I’m just asking out of curiosity . Ok! 🙂

That’s a great question, and thank you for reading my post and taking the time to comment! I just value my privacy a lot, plus I work in a very conservative industry, and I’m not (yet) comfortable with the idea of being fully recognizable in a photo that’s totally out there on the internet. One day, maybe! 🙂

This sounds lovely Charlotte. Just my sort of thing too. I’m postponing my New Year’s celebration until I’m well. I had a night with my best friends planned – takeaway, a few games and laughs but I was in bed by 9.30pm!

You poor thing!!! I was wondering about you earlier today, hoping you’re feeling even a smidge better. But hey, spreading out the joy of new years sounds nice! You and your friends can go out next week (or whenever) and celebrate a belated NYE without all the fuss of the NYE crowds!

Sounds like my kind of night! Mine was a bit lazier. My husband and I bought a bunch of snack foods, while we chilled in our jammies, binge-watching Making a Murderer on Netflix. Luckily, it was really good and kept us up to see the ball drop!

Sounds like fun!! I’ve never heard of that show. Is it reality or scripted? Sounds interesting! I’m glad y’all had a good NYE!! Haha my boyfriend and I barely made it awake past midnight. If it weren’t for the dog practically pushing us off the couch I don’t think we would have. Lol! 🙂

Yes! It’s a 10 episode documentary on Netflix. Soo good, but it’ll infuriate you! You’ll want to become a lawyer like pronto to help the subject of the documentary.

Thanks for the forewarning!! I’ll be sure to keep that in mind if/when I watch it. I unsubscribed from Netflix a while back since I wasn’t getting my money’s worth. But documentaries are fascinating!! Thanks for the recommendation! 🙂
