Third time in the airport in a month, third attempt at a full marathon this weekend. Tonight I fly out for my next marathon, two weeks ago it was Thanksgiving, two weeks before that was a business trip. Then again in two weeks I’ll fly out for Christmas. I feel like I’m living at the airport! My flight is delayed, so I’m trying to take advantage of the extra time to work on my novel. But really all I can think about is how I can’t wait to finally, finally cross the finish line after 26.2 miles.
Exactly three years ago I was signed up to run the marathon I’m doing this weekend. I was fully trained, feeling great, and – BAM – came down with the flu a week beforehand. And I was capital S.I.C.K. sick. So that race came and went with a big ol’ DNS.
Then, as many of you know, I ran the full Savannah marathon last month. Except that I only got to go 16.2 miles since they detoured the course halfway through due to extreme heat that caused two deaths.
Character building experiences are great and all, and the six half marathons I’ve completed have been awesome, but I really really really want to cross that finish line after the full 26.2 miles this weekend.
Third time’s a charm, right? 😉
Keep it up. You will get there. After waiting this long it will be that much sweeter.

Thank you, Kevin! I really appreciate the encouragement, and I apologize for the delay in responding to your comment. I read it before my marathon, and it definitely stuck with me. You are so right, the finish line felt a thousand times more special than I think it would have if the first race years ago had gone according to plan.

Good luck! And, that’s way too much time in an airport. Lol. That would make me crazy
